So Blue Monday closed the retail store in September, and it feels like an eternity ago! I am starting to feel like it never existed. People have moved, jobs have changed, I have a big old mess of stuff in my house. I HATE FEBRUARY.....did I say that outloud? Oops....I think I hate it so much because I am just ready for Spring, ready for summer! Speaking of summer....I am trying to plan that out.....where should Blue Monday vend? The Farmer's Market and Mosey's are at the top of list.....any other ideas out there? I need some inspiration as well....what would you like to see Blue Monday make? My focus is all over the place, I just want to make everything.....then I get overwhelmed and make nothing.

Hello!

Well, guess what Blue Monday now has new day time hours! That's right folks....we are open during the day. No more just weird night time hours. It seems as thought I quit my job, so I am able to have the store open more now. For the last two days I have been just sitting in Blue Monday thinking....this is it...this is what I do now.....frozen stiff in a chair staring at the computer...has all my creativity left me? Was it only a here because I was inspired by my awful job? nah.....I'm just in shock

Well, as if I didn't have enough stuff to do.......I have decided to start another Etsy shop. Why? Because I want to sell some of this stuff that I thought I needed......but it turns out I don't! I have too much stuff! I wanted to call the new Etsy shop something fun and Betsy helped me come up with Eyelet it go..........sounds great right.....put it all together with no spaces...Eyeletitgo, all I see is the word "tit" maybe some sort of sign.......I will ponder that later. Well.....guess what?

I caved. Big Surprise. I've purchased so much fabric this month, it's almost like I did the exact opposite of what I said I was going to do. That might say something about how I live my life. Anyway I've purchased some really great fabrics this month. First I went with Amber to Indy and bought some great fabrics and JoAnn's and Hancock....I wish we had Hancock Fabric in L-Town. Then I went to JoAnn's in Lafayette, and they had everything on clearance......I love clearance! I had to buy it! It was a good deal! Then I went to Ikea...and who doesn't love Ikea fabric????? It's so fun! And cheap! Then yesterday I went to JoAnn.....and the new Project Runway fabric is out! It's like they made it just for me. It's aqua with pictures of thread spools all over it. I LOVE IT!!!! Anyway.....now you all know how weak I am. Good day.

So on Monday night I was driving down Main Street, and I noticed that Annecy's gift shop was GONE! What? They just had signs on the door saying they were making room for spring merchandise! Oh no! This is bad. Annecey's was in THE retail spot on the block. Prime location! What will be there now? A big empty space? I was so happy when they moved in, and filled up the empty space that Silver in the City left behind. Dang it! I just want all of the local businesses to succeed! Of course I contemplated moving Blue Monday down to that amazing spot.....but we can't afford what we have now, so don't be moving to something bigger...right? Also I noticed that the Green Door is closing! Man, this is bad. I was just starting to look forward to summer, the mosey's, the gallery walks, all the street festivals.....Please someone move into these open spaces! Please locals...shop downtown! Eat downtown! support local business!

The Craft Swap was such a success that we decided to do another FREE workshop at Blue Monday!

On Saturday March 14th from 1-5 pm we will be having an "Embellish your stuff" workshop!

What does this mean?

Bring in something you would like to embellish, (Hat, shirt, sweater, jeans, bag, etc...) pick out some cute fabric from Blue Monday's scrap stash, cut out a design and we will help you affix it to your stuff! Sounds fun right? Did I mention that it's FREE????

Today, Blue Monday got a hand written letter from Craft Magazine. I didn't even know people still wrote hand written letters in the corporate world. But they do, and I got one! Turns out they saw our website, (Thanks Kat for promoting us!) and they like what we do!!!! They would like us to sell Craft magazine in our store.....and we might just give it a shot! Here is the post for those of you who would like something set up already:

As parents and concerned citizens I’m sure most of us at one time or another have been confronted with the question of lead poisoning. But have you asked yourself what your government is doing to protect your children from lead contained in toys? The answer? They're banning toys, taking books from schools and libraries, hurting low income families, killing entrepreneurial spirit and risking putting the economy in an even greater depression than we've seen in decades. I'd like to introduce you to their solution: the CPSIA.

Do you know about the CPSIA?
No? Then I ask you to take a few minutes to find out about it.

The CPSIA stands for Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, a new set of laws that will come into effect on 10 February, 2009 and will impact many, many people in a negative way. Make no mistake, this is very real. View it for yourself. If Forbes, the American Library Association and numerous other media are paying attention, perhaps you should too.

How will these new laws affect you? Well, here are a few examples:

To the Parents of Young Students:Due to the new law, expect to see the cost of school supplies sky rocket. While those paper clips weren't originally intended for your student to use, they will need to be tested now that your 11-year-old needs them for his school project. This law applies to any and all school supplies (textbooks, pencils, crayons, paper, etc.) being used by children under 12.

To the Avid Reader:Due to the new law, all children's books will be pulled from library and school shelves, as there is no exemption for them. That’s okay though, there's always television. To the Lover of All Things Handmade:Due to the new law, you will now be given a cotton ball and an instruction manual so you can make it yourself since that blanket you originally had your eye on for $50 will now cost you around $1,000 after it's passed testing. It won't even be the one-of-a-kind blanket you were hoping for. Items are destroyed in the testing process making one-of-a-kind items virtually impossible. So that gorgeous hand-knit hat you bought your child this past winter won’t be available next winter.

To the Environmentalist:Due to the new law, all items in non-compliance will now be dumped into our already overflowing landfills. Imagine not just products from the small business owners, but the Big Box Stores as well. You can't sell it so you must toss it. Or be potentially sued for selling it. You can't even give them away. If you are caught, it is still a violation.

To the Second-Hand Shopper:Due to the new law, you will now need to spend $20 for that brand new pair of jeans for your 2-year old, rather than shop at the Goodwill for second hand. Many resale shops are eliminating children's items all together to avoid future lawsuits.

To the Entrepreneur:Due to this new law, you will be forced to adhere to strict testing of your unique products or discontinue to make and/or sell them. Small businesses will be likely to be unable to afford the cost of testing and be forced to close up shop. Due to the current economic state, you'll have to hope for the best when it comes to finding a new job in Corporate America.

To the Antique Toy Collector:Due to the new law, you'd better start buying now because it's all going to private collection and will no longer be available to purchase. “Because the new rules apply retroactively, toys and clothes already on the shelf will have to be thrown out if they aren't certified as safe.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123189645948879745.html

To the American Economy:Already struggling under an economy that hasn’t been this weak in decades, the American economy will be hit harder with the inevitable loss of jobs and revenues from suppliers, small businesses and consumers. The required testing is far too costly and restrictive for small businesses or individuals to undertake.

To the Worldwide Economy:Due to this new law, many foreign manufacturers have already pulled out of the US market. You can imagine the impact of this on their businesses. We've gotten such a great reaction, we have decided there is a need so we had better jump in and do it! Here are the details:

Saturday, November 1 Noon to Three p.m. Free
Blue Monday Craft Lounge 652 Main Street (765.420.9850)

Anyone under the age of 18 may "vote."
When they arrive, they will create their own "identification card." Then they will check in with a volunteer. They will show their card, verify their age, first name, and state of residence. At that point they will be handed a "ballot," which they can take into the booth, fill out, and drop into the ballot box.

Most rules that apply to voting sites will apply at this event; free, non-partisan, one vote each person, etc. The only significant differences will be the lack of age restriction and presence of snacks. The ballot contains the names of the candidates (along with photos for the pre-readers) that are present on the Indiana ballot: Barr, McCain, and Obama. Write-in candidates will also be permitted.

Results will be announced that Saturday night. No need to register, come on down!!!

(I feel like I need a disclaimer that NONE of these votes will come close to even being considered valid for the election. Entertainment purposes only, folks. No fraud here!)

October has been a busy month at Blue Monday! We started out with "Outoberfest" an awesome event put on by the local Lafayette Pride office. What an amazing turn out, and a great evening of fun! Next we had the highly anticipated first show of our friends new band, "The Left!" What an amazing time! We are really anticipating the next show! Saturday we had Octoberfest another great event put on by UMA! 6000 people downtown on a Saturday......Yeah! That rocks! We have a quiet weekend this week, (except for of course the Snorb! show at Hunter's South) But, next weekend is Halloween, The Left's 2nd show with the Macpodz, and of course the mock voting at Blue Monday (more info to follow!) Try to catch us if you can!

It's been a long summer. A long hard summer. But....Blue Monday has been the saving grace. (Except when we had that flood.) I don't know if what I would do with my time, if there wasn't a craft to make, a store to organize, a store to make a complete mess, and a million projects in the works. I suppose that Blue Monday keeps me from needing countless hours of therapy. It seems if I can sew something and it turns out well, then all is well in the world. I painted the craft room at my house yesterday, and I laughed as I was still picking straight pins from the carpet. I know that I have the best group of friends a crafty girl could ask for!

Betsy and I are trying to take as many vacations as possible this year! We are doing well so far! We just returned from a 4 day trek in Northern Minnesota! (Don't worry we bought lots of fabric!) We got to visit some great craft stores! We went to Crafty Planet in Minneapolis, what a fun place! We also went to a few great quilt shops with lots of awesome fabrics! Now we are going to get busy making stuff for the upcoming 2nd annual Lay Flats Arts and Music festival! I will post some new photos of our work soon!

Yeah! It's May! I love May!

I have been a slacker about keeping up with the blog! I guess I am not much of a blogger! However, I still enjoy it from time to time, so I will continue. The apron show went well, and now the aprons are on display at the Monticello library! I can now say we have a traveling apron show! This weekend I will be teaching my first class on Apron making! We just found out that one Saturday a month they will be closing off Main St from 6th to 9th, to make a great walking environment to enjoy the shops, art, restaurants, etc! We are so excited about this! Our tiny little store will expand to the sidewalk and hopefully meet lots of new people! I am still contemplating being a vendor at the Farmer's market...I love and hate to do it at the same time! Hopefully I will be making lots of new items this weekend, so check out our Etsy site!

Anybody else see the Lay Flats documentary???? Wow! I was completely blown away, it was awesome! Very professional, very artistic, very very very everything!

So that movie made me very excited about summer! Looking forward to summer vending, doors open, breezes blowing, bare feet, fun dresses, bike riding, hula hooping, festivals, sales, music, music, music and more music!

Today is Chaz's birthday! And Chaz is one of the best things about summer! For four days we get to go to Tennessee and play like kids, and forget that we are grown up with responsibilities. So Happy Birthday Chaz, I am looking forward to making some more memories at the old Bonnaroo this year!

Wow! It's Friday! I am super excited! I don't have to work on Sunday! It's a birthday party weekend! And I am hoping that my partner in crime will be feeling better!

I have started to make some new summer stuff, some tie back dresses, and shirts! Love them! Last night I made a halter dress for a little girl! I was very excited to put in on our mannequin. The shop is extra clean thanks to my mother, who keeps me in line. Therefore , all I am going to do today is sew! and maybe put some stuff up on Etsy!

For the love of God.....I hope that at least one person enjoys an apron as much as I do!

In reality I am super excited about this silly little apron show! I think it is going to rock. Hopefully I won't have to tunnel my way to the coffee shop tomorrow!

Everyone has been super awesome in the process! I love each and every apron.....yes EVERY apron!

82 aprons....not bad for a shop full of gals with full time jobs!

Wow....2008 is officially on it's way.....Time seems to be flying past. Lots of things on my mind lately....note really blog related material. However, The Apron Show is defiantly on......I was interviewed by the lovely Tim Brouk today! At Blue Monday we think that Tim rocks! He is always supporting our crafty endeavors, and he loves our cards! Which, makes us love Tim!!!!! Patty from K.Dees Coffee Shop made us these awesome flyers! We are going to make a record number of aprons this week.....I think I can do it!

Feeling Better...getting things done

Ok it's amazing what nap and a cherry coke will do for you. I am feeling much better, and alot more productive. I wanted to post a few new pictures of what I have been working on. First off another APRON for the upcoming show.....starting to dream about aprons!

Why Tuesdays are not cool.

Tuesdays are not cool, because there is always a lot of work to do. It makes me tired. Tuesdays should be for sleeping! Especially if it is raining outside. I will get over this urge to sleep and go back to Blue Monday and craft something up!

When life hands you bifocals....make aprons!

Today....not the best day.

However, I did get my new BIFOCAL glasses today.....which is awesome and awful at the same time. Grateful I can see.....feeling like I am 100 years old because I need bifocals.

I also managed to take most of the Christmas decorations down at Blue Monday. I have replaced them with some great valentines/springy stuff. In early February we will be having an apron show at K. Dees Coffee. The apron show is all the buzz around Blue Monday, I think we have made the aprons 2o times now, because we keep selling them, and coming up with new ideas. Here a few I made this week. Hope you like them!

When Kat started hanging out at the store she brought her unique style of crafting with her. She makes these great bunnies out of scrap fabric. They are called Moopies. I don't have a photo of one but I should. However, she inspired me to make a creature of my own. My first sock creation is know as Sydney the shop monkey! She is great mascot! She's been all over the land.....California, Tennessee, Austin....she's a trooper!

I have made several friends for Sydney...but they find new homes very fast....hard to keep in stock!
